About me
I was born in Denmark and grew up in the United States. I moved to Madrid to study physiotherapy, receiving my degree from Universidad CEU San Pablo. I am pursuing a research Master’s degree, advanced physiotherapy in the treatment of pain, at La Salle Centro Universitario (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid). I am also an adjunct professor at UNIE University, where I teach biomechanics to physiotherapy students.
As an athlete training for strength and trail running goals, I practice what I preach. I strive to take care of myself as I would any of my patients (and vice versa). I set big goals, take small steps toward achieving them, and self-manage setbacks along the way, most recently Achilles tendinopathy.
I also have personal experience with overcoming pain on a deeper level. In the past, I fought against drug addiction, depression, and anxiety. I'm grateful to have experienced it all, because it made me who I am today and gave me many tools and strategies that I use to help others with their own difficulties.
Since long before graduating, I've been an advocate for basing clinical practice on scientific evidence. As a student, I conducted several workshops and seminars on the topics of pain science and motivational psychology.
I am currently the lead author of an ongoing national research project in Spain. We are analyzing the pain knowledge of health professional undergraduate students, in order to provide better education to future professionals.
